Residential Lead Monitoring Program

The Municipality of Roblin is offering free testing for lead in drinking water. The Province of Manitoba and the Municipality of Roblin recommend that you test your drinking water for lead.

Lead exposure can effect the health of everyone, but fetuses, infants and young children are the most sensitive to lead exposure. The Canadian Drinking Water Guidelines state that lead concentration in drinking water should not exceed 0.005 mg/L and recommends that child care providers and schools test their drinking water for lead.

Water from the Municipality of Roblin’s Water Treatment Plant meets the lead limit guidelines; however, lead can enter drinking water from residential lead based plumbing materials. Elevated lead concentrations at the tap are more likely in older homes, built before 1950.  Testing the drinking water in your home will help the Muniipality of Roblin assess whether lead is present in residential drinking water and the best course of action to take if it exceeds guidelines.

If you are interested in this free testing, please phone or email the Municipality of Roblin using the contact information below.  If you know that your residence was built prior to 1980 and would like this lead testing done, your residence may be chosen as a priority candidate. If selected, the Municipality of Roblin will advise you on how water samples will be collected.
