NOTICE OF BURNING BAN

Effective 08:00 AM – May 29, 2025
No burning of any kind, including fireworksis permitted throughout the Municipality of Roblin until further notice. All current burn permits are suspended or cancelled, and no new permits will be issued until further notice.

The following exceptions apply:

a) Approved Personal firepits (enclosed on all sides, covered with a non-combustible grate or mesh, and located on a non-combustible base clear of overhangs) — Permitted between 8:00 PM and 8:00 AM only, must be enclosed and used with extreme caution.
b) Gas appliances (e.g., BBQs) 
— Permitted at any time, provided that all standard fire safety precautions are followed.

Failure to adhere to this ban may result in fines under The Municipality's By-law to protect life and property damages by fire and regulate burning.

This ban is in place to mitigate wildfire risk during current dry conditions. Your cooperation is essential to community safety.

Rates, Fees & Changes to Utility Billing

Billing Schedule

Urban residents with a utility connection are billed quarterly for water and sewer services. Billing is based on usage and approved rates.

  • January–March: Billed in April
  • April–June: Billed in July
  • July–September: Billed in October
  • October–December: Billed in January

Current Utility Rates (Effective January 1, 2024)

Water Rates (Per Cubic Meter):

  • First 115 m³ (Domestic): $2.35
  • Next 1,000 m³ (Intermediate): $2.24
  • Over 1,115 m³ (Wholesale): $2.14

Sewer Rates (Per Cubic Meter):

  • Flat rate for all tiers: $1.16

Additional Charges:

  • Service Charge: $25.16 per quarter
  • Rate Rider: $0.58 per cubic meter (for deficit recovery until 2028)

Quarterly Minimum Billing

Your minimum charge is based on the size of your water meter:

  • 5/8" Meter: 15 m³
  • 3/4" Meter: 30 m³
  • 1" Meter: 60 m³
  • 1 ½" Meter: 150 m³
  • 2" Meter: 375 m³
  • 3" Meter: 675 m³

Understanding Your Bill

  1. Water Charge: Based on water usage through your meter, covering collection, treatment, and distribution.
  2. Sewer Charge: Based on water usage, covering environmental regulations for disposal.
  3. Service Charge: Covers administrative costs like billing, postage, and maintenance.
  4. Rate Rider: Temporary charge to recover costs from operating the Roblin Water Plant.

Other Charges

  • Late Payments: 1.25% penalty per month, applied on the 1st of each month.
  • Reconnection Fee: $40 to reconnect services.
  • Hydrant Use: $200 per approved use.
  • Meter Rechecks: $10 if the initial reading is correct.

Moving or Changing Utilities

  • Report moves before they happen by calling 204-937-8333 ext. 228 or emailing utility@roblin.ca.
  • For landlords, unreported tenant changes result in accounts automatically transferred to your name.

Common Questions

  1. High Bills: Check for leaks (e.g., running toilets or faucets). A small leak can significantly increase your bill. Use food dye in your toilet tanks to check for leaks.
  2. Average Household Water Usage:
    • 1 person: 15 m³/quarter
    • 4 people: 50 m³/quarter
